  • “The Finance Committee vetting process isn’t determined by the work of any particular staff member. A whole host of people decide how to proceed and when vetting processes are sufficiently done,” the aide explained. “And every finance staffer, whether they’re drafting legislation, answering phones or helping to vet nominees, is simply asked to do those tasks as thoroughly as the American people would expect.” To be sure, the tax counsel on the committee’s Republican staff, Theresa Pattara — another former IRS official — also plays a key role in examining nominees’ finances.
