  • The Obama administration is likely to recalibrate rather than relegate democracy as a foreign policy objective. It understands that democracies are the most effective partners in helping us address today’s great international challenges: terrorism, poverty, weapons proliferation and civil conflict. By encouraging those at the grass roots who wish to move their countries in a more democratic direction, the administration will send a powerful message that the American people share and will help them realize their aspirations.
